Hi,

List members who have followed the recent discussion on "moving to a computer-based entertainment system" may be interested in DVDRemaster Pro, which is on sale for half price ($24.99) for the next 12 hours as today's MacUpdate promo. Some of the advantages over the free Handbrake are that, according to reviews I've read comparing the two, and based on the comments of people who switched to using this app, is that DVDRemaster Pro will rip you DVD 3 times faster than Handbrake. You can also separately extract audio tracks, and in the latest version you can preserve multiple audio tracks (for several languages). Massimo's post to Donna, listing links to either VLC media player and Fairmount to deal with DRM linked to the Metakine (maker of DVDRemaster Pro) site for the Fairmount helper application. This program also handles dual-density DVDs. One of the members of the mac-access list worked with the developers to improve VoiceOver accessibility (which was pretty good to start off with).

Here's the MacUpdate Promo page URL:

New purchasers will have to create an account, which requires a one- time negotiation of a CAPTCHA. Mac users can get assistance from the Solona site to negotiate the CAPTCHA:

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
