Perhaps someone already said this. To turn off a bunch of the "blank blank blank" when reading mail: 1. Hit Vo-M and go to the View menu. 2. Arrow down to the Columns submenu. 3. Hit the right arrow and you will see checkboxes for all the things it can show. Uncheck any that don't seem relevant. That will at least cut down on the blanks.
