Allison,
Did you ever get your braillino yet?
I am still waiting to try that braillenote with a Macintosh when the teacher and I have time. He's been out so we've had to make up for lost time.

Hi Samuel,

I was thinking about your predicament as I read your post. Is it possible you could look for a used display instead of shelling out the thousands it would cost to purchase a new display? Just a thought. I find that my reading ability only increased when I started reading more. I have been blind since I was three-years-old, I don't know if that helps. But I think if your eye condition is gdegenerative, having a Braille display will open up a whole new tactile world to you. Do you want a notetaker or just a Braille display? THe displays without the notetaking capability are much less expensive. I've heard that APH makes a nice display, with concave cells. I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Handytech Braillino. I hope I have helped. I also read with my left hand almost exclusively. I have calluses on my hand from guitar and started using it more and more often to combat the calluses. Now my left is more sensitive than the right. Have a wonderful day.

that getting a braille display will improve my reading by opening up
much much more content to read, but on the other hand, my reading
speed is so slow, that it's hard to justify paying 3-4 thousand
dollars for a braille display.

I'm also left handed, which i think contributes to a poor reading
speed.

Any suggestions, do I shell out that much money and risk not using the
display, or do i continue to read the 2 or 3 books I have in the hopes
of improvement?

Thanks
