the growler app comes with adium.
its designed to make some aspects of various programs a little m ore accessible 
(such as skype's chat frames).  it has a lot of speech functions that can be 
helpful. it can also get in the way if you don't need that level of verbosity 
for a particular application.

I got it working for skype about 2 weeks ago and never looked back.
