You can access the files within your time machine if you mount the disk on the left hand side you'll get the dates. If you press L for latest, then vo right, you will see all your latest files. Then you find the file and copy rather than cut and paste. When done, you can erraise the time machine and back your Mac again how you want it. I bought a network cable so the whole process took half an hour as I also had to restore a virtual windows 7 machine.
