Eric:
You might want to try getting Webkit and installing it.  Even if its just open 
and you are using Safari, things seem to go better.  Webkit is basically the 
underlying framework for Safari, and a testing project for potential changes 
and fixes in Safari.  So, it often addresses issues before an actual Safari 
update comes out.
