Hi, There are two editions of IPal. One is a standalone unit, the other requires a computer.
The idea is, you have a camera on a tripod. You then set a book or a paper under the tripod and the camera takes a picture which then gets converted to text. I have seen the IPal solo work, but so far, these devices are still pretty problematic. I hope this helps.
