Have you tried using Groups mode? Links tend to be grouped together, so you can skip a bunch of them at once by doing VO-Down arrow or just down arrow with Quick Nav on.
I use Groups mode most of the time, in fact, I only use DOM mode when I want to read through a fairly long article without stopping. The problem with reading a whole article in Groups mode is that it puts all the links within a group at the end of that group, making some paragraphs incomprehensible.
