I suspect the installation didn't complete because you're still getting the 
message asking you to install Vmware tools.  That goes away after a successful 
install.  I'm not sure how to resume an install or whether it's even possible, 
perhaps someone else know that.  However my solution would be to start from 
scratch and give the image a new name and be sure it actually completes.  Once 
it does you can start narrator or even satogo to get speech.
