I would like to know the experience you have after teaching your sigted friend. I would use route the Mouse to the VO cursor focus, which I think is VO-Shift-F5, but I am not sure. I would also tile visuals with VO-F10, this highlights the area of the screen and puts in the middle, making everything else blackish so that the highlighted item is the focus. After seeing the item, your sighted friend will then be able to know where in the screen it is at. I would use the VO cursor size command also, VO-Shift-Left and or Right Bracket to make the VO curosr size bigger and smaller as needed. As the VO curosr grows, a bigger rectangle encircles it and whatever is on the focus. I hope this helps, also the person taht told you about the hide address field and hide and unhide dock was right ont he money.
