Hi Laura, The Macbook Pro features a Firewire port, the Macbook does not. That and the points mentioned earlier are the difference.
Voiceover will run on any Mac, from their smallest laptop to their professional grade servers, once it is running any OS past OS X 10.4 Tiger. Good luck with the switch.
