Nope, if you share the public folder on the mac you want to share, by going to system preferences, sharing and check the on box for file sharing you can copy your files into your user names public folder and then you'll be able to see it on the other mac by going up to the finder emnu, the go menu and down to network. warning, doing this might blow up your network by dropping your connection. just kidding, but your connection might drop and you'll have to unplug your router and replug it back in.
