This is how I read threaded mail.  While in the message table I VO left arrow 
to thread, expand it with VO \.  Next I jump to the first message with VO J.  
When I am finished reading that message, I press delete, which lands me back in 
the message table, where I press VO J and begin the process all over again.  It 
might not be the right way, but it works for me.  (Smilie!)
