Hi Yuma,
Sorry, I should have added that you can't use iBooks unless you can download it
from your iTunes Store -- even if you bought an iPad from the U.S. Unless the
app is on the device and/or in your iTunes library, ePub books that you
transfer over when you sync your iPad won't be read in iBooks, and they won't
be recognized by other apps. You have to load ePub books in the app you are
going to use to read them.
You also asked about other natural sounding voices. It's been hard enough to find an
accessible eBook reading application without having better voices. The best I could do
was use iSpeak It! to read notes (or a novella) pasted into the app. I mentioned Read2Me
which I initially found unstable and clunky to upload text (and which didn't allow you to
speed up the voice at all, if you used one of the built-in voices. This only worked for
English. I found that one translation app used the Russian Loquendo voices, which
sounded great, but the app really isn't accessible. (It was a Russian-English Dictionary
and Translator app by BitKnights LLC.) It's possible to get to the translation screen and
paste in Russian text, and have it speak the text by double tapping the "Say
It" button. Again, it's not designed for book reading, and won't keep track of your
place or do really large chunks of text. It was also hard to get to the translation
screen, which is where I now leave it. Sorry not to have better answers.
HTH. Cheers,
Esther
Hi list,
Just to add some fuel to the fire i am feeling right now about books i cant
read, i had the following questions:
Has anyone successfully placed epub files into their ibook app on the ipad? If
so, what is the procedure? is it just importing epub books in itunes or is it a
bit more complicated than that?
Secondly, has anyone found any app either from acapella or other licensees of
acapella coming out with a natural sounding e-book reader?
Best regards,
Yuma
