Transmitting via ftp in transmit is quite easy. I use this on a  daily bases.

1. connect to the ftp server.

2. go to the first table which is your local path and interact with it.

3. browse to the place by going to the folder and hitting command down arrow on 
the  folders until you find the place you want to transfer. you then navigate 
to the thing you want to download on the other table until you get to the 
folder or file and hit command shift r.

reverse that process  if you are uploading a file.
