Hi all,

The O'Reilly Ebook Deal of the Day for "iPad: The Missing Manual" lets you get
this book in DRM-free electronic format in advance of the printed copy at a discounted
price of $9.99.  You can read this as a PDF or, if you get an iPad, you can also download
the ePub version, add it to your iTunes library, and then sync it as a book to iBooks for
reading.
The order page is:
<http://oreilly.com/catalog/9781449387846/>
You'll need to sign up for an account using the "My Account" link (so you can access your
eBook versions at any later time). When you check out, use the coupon code "DDPAD"
(without the quote marks). You can also try reading the ePub version in Ibis reader on your iPhone
or iPod Touch, although I found the loading was much slower on my iPod Touch, and VoiceOver
initially got very sluggish while this loaded into Ibis reader. Once you make a purchase, the
receipt page gives you two links, which I'll repeat here. O'Reilly's electronic media page to
download files to your computer is:
<https://members.oreilly.com/account/emedia>
Their Mobile electronic media page to get downloads into the Stanza app, or
Ibis reader is:
<https://members.oreilly.com/mobile/account/emedia>
I've had variable success with Stanza on the iPad; it won't advance reading of
the the page if VoiceOver has been heavily loaded even when it works on the
short demo book in the Stanza library (Alice in Wonderland). I've been able to
use it when I restart my iPad and clear memory, but sometimes it will stop
updating the page or stop reading before I come to the end of a section. (On
the iPod Touch, the same book just stops reading/updating right away in Stanza
when VoiceOver is on.)  iBooks works much better on the same ePub files, but
this gives people who are waiting for iBooks Store content something else to
play with on the iPad.

Cheers,

moriond
