Hi Kerie, This was a problem my friend Sarah helped me solve. I know there is an easier way, but I'll tell you what I do. Press VO (option and control keys together) and M as in Mary twice. It brings you to the Time Machine menu, you just right arrow till you hear battery status. Then you can see how much life the battery has left and also how many hours you have left.
