I guess I should have been more clear about that. Webkit uses the same 'shell' of Safari, but the render engine underneath is the nightly build. So you will have some difficulty being able to tell the two apart when running other than the app name or some new features. You can run them both at the same time if you wish.

Hi,

It also runs Safari, so you will have all your settings. IN case anyone is confused. SO you can set it as your default web browser.

You can uninstall it, but that is pointless. Your bug may be fixed the next day.

After installing webkit you will have a second app called webkit. There is no effect on Safari. So if you want the officially supported version launch Safari. If you want the latest greatest run Webkit. Each time you launch webkit it will check if there is an update and ask to download/install if it finds one (usually every 24 hours).

Now I do have a question. do I have to run the webkit.app every time I want to run safary from now on or just once in a while to update the fraimwork?

Take care.

Hi,

Webkit is the underlying framework for Safari. That is what is handling all HTML, at least on the Mac.

A lot of the time, stability with Webkit is increased if you download the framework yourself and keep it up-to-date. The Apple version is far out of date.

That's just a brief summary, but if something crashes, chances are that getting a new version of Webkit fixes it.

Sorry all, if this has already been discussed, but I've been really swamped the last couple of months, so I may have missed it. What is Webkit?

Hi,

Yeah, I was wondering if you were talking to me for a second, even though I haven't commented at all. lol

Well, I haven't noticed anything. In fact, Safari is better than ever, and with the installation of Webkit, it's faster than I can blink the proverbial eye. In fact, it's so blindingly fast that you don't even see it.

That's true, even if I use the regular-type Safari, but it's a bit slower. Not by much, though.

I suck at troubleshooting. This is because I never encounter the issues everyone else encounters. I feel left out.
