Now, why couldn't I find that on the File menu? Must have overlooked it somehow. Seems to have solved the problem.

You need to do Command T to open as a new Tab instead of Command N which opens
a new window.

I'm on Sequoia 15.7.2. I read that it's possible to switch betwixt and between
open Finder windows by pressing Control-TAB. However, I've only been able to do
this one time. Now, when I open a new Finder window with Command-N and try to
switch to the original (or any other) Finder window, I get moved to a vertical
scroll area which is really just the column headers of the Finder window I'm
trying to leave. Then, I read something from Apple support that the Control-TAB
keystroke command only works if you open a new Finder tab, not a new Finder
window. So then, what's the difference between windows and tabs in Finder? i
know what they are in, say, a browser--windows have tabs as children in the
main window, and it's possible to have multiple browser windows with tabs in
each one--but how does that map to Finder? And, more importantly, what should I
be doing in order to move between Finder windows with Control-TAB?
