My personal experience is that I have key clicks in most password entry situations on my Macbook and on my iPhone--but not in all applications. If memory serves my CitiBank app doesn't click. There are other apps that don't.
I have always put this down to different app creation toolkits. I don't know to what degree Apple enforces use of their default tooling, but I believe this can explain why there are keyclicks on some apps, but not on others. I suppose it's time to load up Wappalyzer and start taking notes.
