One thing may be a perception that you are splerging and treating yourself. Given that, an extra hundred or two for the pro doesn't really seem out of the way. I thought my next macbook purchase would be a macbook standard or possibly a 13 inch macbook pro. But when I saw how much more configurable the 15 inch macbook pro was than either of the low end options, I began to rethink. For example there is a super nice looking solid state harddrive option. Maybe bytime I'm ready to buy next february it will be standard, but I doubt it.
