If you want to control on the fly, there is a special rotor.
Hold down VO and command and ship and then use the left and right arrow keys
until you find rate you can then use up /down to adjust speed.
In VoiceOver utility you can open the Speech area and then click the Voices
tab. Now you should find a button for each voice you have downloaded. Press
VO-space on that button and you will be able to adjust several parameters
including rate.

Running Sonoma, Alex speaks a little slower than he used to. I’d like to speed
him up a little. speaking rate isn’t in my quicknav rotor. I went to vo utility
and located “speech”. after that I can’t get. anything to happen. how do I open
that up? when speech is highlighted, if I just plain arrow right I hear “tab
pronunciation.” and if I arrow left I hear: “tab voices but I don’t know how to
get in there. vo right or left arrow or tabbing shows me the other categories.
