It should not matter if word is working, or even installed on your iPhone. When you open a Microsoft Word document that is attached to an email, the file opens in a viewer within the Mail app on your iPhone. I've been using an iPhone for more than 10 years, and this is how it has always worked. Just to test and make sure nothing has changed, I just now opened a word file that was sent to me as an attachment in an email I received earlier this week. The word document opened in the viewer within the Mail app on my iPhone as expected. I do not understand why others are having a problem Doing this.
