I had a dongle for my old Mac mini but I'm pretty sure it's not going to fit in this one. so what exactly do I need to order for this one? It's just a couple electronic components inside a can that make your Mini think there's a monitor plugged into it when there isn't one. You are correct, though, that there is no SD card slot. Another thing they took away is the power lamp. The Mini I got in 2012 had a bright red LED power indicator on the front edge. The new ones don't.
