Hello Simon, I edit Word documents using Pages all the time, and I haven't yet found a Word document I couldn't work with.
Sometimes, you get fonts that aren't available on the Mac, but Pages substitutes other fonts for these. PC users have always been able to read my edited documents when exported back to Word format. I also edit PowerPoint documents using Keynote, and I know that Numbers can edit Exel documents.
