I do the same. I believe a clean start is the best way to go. I also keep my important documents in iCloud, and once I sign into my Apple ID account, all my stuff is there. I also use Dropbox, but that is mostly how I exchange files with various groups with which I collaborate. Then, I install any applications I have previously purchased from the Mac AppStore, and do a clean install of other applications I have acquired from other sources. One thing I never do, is set up a new Mac from a Time Machine backup. I believe doing this creates more problems than it solves. And absolutely never set up a new Mac with Apple Silicon, from a Time Machine backup from an Intel Mac. Every person I have known to have done this, has rendered their new Mac unusable, and ended up returning the new Mac to Apple.
