a question about compact voices.

Going to start a different thread about applications, but one goal at a 
time.
While taking the tutorial I reached the place where  voices, pitch rate and 
inflection can be adjusted.
I recall that one can get an alternative to compact voices,  enhanced 
perhaps?
Do not recall the process however, do I need my apple id for this, or is 
there another path?
