I have a 2 Tb drive connected to my Apple Airport Extreme that is used for Time
Machine backups on my two Mac OS and my wife’s Mac. It also serves as a
repository for iTunes, Music archives, and Photo Archives.

It is getting too full, and there is a folder called “Backups.backupdb” that
was created two years ago when I first got my Mac and connected the SSD
directly to my machine. These backups are completely useless to me, and use up
almost 50Gb of space that I could use.

When I try to delete any of the folders in this tree using Command+Delete or
Command+Option+Delete, it tries very hard to do the deleting, but I ultimately
fail to get the job done, and get the following message:

The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each
item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check
the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and
not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again.

Well, it’s a real pain to try and mark these folders as suggested, and actually
they are all not locked, and have the access set to “read and Write’ for
everyone.

So how do I just snip off this folder and not get that message above? I suspect
there’s a clever terminal command to do this, so looking forward to one of the
real tech-heads on this list to point me in the right direction.

Many thanks!
