Hi there, Since Big Sur, on an Apple M1 chip computer, I have had Voiceover crash all the time. I have gone into Voiceover preferences and reset all Voiceover preferences and it has solved that issue.
A new issue, in Monterey is that, when your computer goes to sleep and requires a password, Voiceover doesn’t always come on and it doesn’t always play the clicks to indicate that you are typing in your password. Try entering your password and hitting enter and see what results you get.
