Well, I do not see why we can’t keep siri features.

Customizations are not worth it to me if we can’t have a reliable experience
with apps and services.

I’m waiting until 15.1.

I don’t want to risk wallet crashing or have problems using the keyboard with
my 5th Generation iPad Mini.

But, the new customization features open lots of very useful possibilities. As
you’ll recall from my other posts this week, some of them came as an unpleasant
surprise to me, but I think in the long run, the added functionality is worth
it. Should Apple avoid adding new functionality to the phone just so they can
keep it dumbed down? My answer to that is no, even if it means that the iPhone
isn’t for everyone. After all, most devices aren’t for everyone.

Cheers,

Donna

I hope you are right, but if so, then the iPhone would be less accessible to
people new to smart phones.

My respect for Apple’s commitment to accessibility has been tarnished by these
changes because accessibility goes beyond blindness.

I want the iPhone to do well, but it should be as easy to use as possible, and
removing features is right the opposite.

I think some of this is that with IOS 15 the shortcuts functionality is being
used instead of hard coding items into SIRI. The problem with this if I am
correct, i is that it requires more customization by each user, but could mean
it is easier to use an alternative client with Siri.

Kinda like how when you ask SIRI to play "All Star" it asks which app should I
use.

Perhaps VoiceMail / last call will work that way too.

Just conjecture.

One thing to keep in mind, though, Rebecca, is that some of us choose not to
use Alexa or Google for privacy reasons. If that’s the case for his clients,
your solution would not work.

I also prefer to use a keyboard as well. I only use Siri for the most simple of
tasks such as a fast way to open an application or using it on the Apple watch
to get my location if I realized I passed a street I was supposed to cross. So
I'm not a Siri expert by any stretch of the imagination.
Having said that, I agree these features need to be available for a demographic
that need them.

I really enjoy this discussion.

Best,

The population of people you work with who depend on these features are the
ones being impacted by this.
Apple is not sending a good message here.
Siri has never been one of my favorite digital assistants though.
There is too much emphasis on cameras and not enough stability in software as
far as I'm concerned i.e. taking out features after advertising them.

As the president of the CFB, I see a lot of older people who use these
features. I understand that we should all do our best to learn the iOs
interface but we also have to understand that a lot of older people just want
to get the basics done. Even accomlishing the basics on these devices can
be quite a difficult task for many users.
A prime example is writing in braille screen input′ A lot of people are just
simply not going to get that far. Even simple tasks such as learning the
concept of singgle and double tapping is a major learning curve for a lot of
this demographic

I have mixed views on this .
On the one hand, I think it is important to learn Apple's native user
interface, but on the other hand it is very frustrating to lose Siri features
that people depend on.
Does the removal of certain Siri features impact sighted users as well or just
the visually impaired?
It doesn't sound like a Voiceover bug to me.
This hurts Apple's reputation as a trend setter in accessibility.
The good news is that if you have an Apple Homepod Mini you can still play
voicemails.
