I am not sure if I am answering your question, but here is my best guess.
Debit cards are most often issued by banks as a super ATM card. They work as an
ATM card, but also have Visa or Mastercard codes on them allowing a store to
draw from your bank account instead of the credit card. I believe you can also
set up something where you deposit $500 into an account that will then issue
you a debit card with a $500 credit limit on it. This second situation is
usually used for people who are first establishing a credit history.
