Since you are most likely migrating from an older Intel-based Mac, to a new M1 Mac, you should be aware that the 2 systems are very different and not compatible. A couple of users on this list have tried using a Time Machine backup from their older Intel-based Mac, to setup their new M1 Mac, and the results were devastating. In both of these cases, the new M1 Mac was rendered unusable,, and had to be returned to Apple.
Transferring your data and applications using the Migration assistant may be a safer option to consider.
