OK, yI started getting curious about this. 
In MacOS BigSUr the launchd runs the command 
"periodic" found in /usr/sbin  
This appears to run all the scripts in 
/etc/periodic/daily, /etc/periodic/weekly or /etc/periodic/monthly.

It is quite possible that other locations are looked at too, and there is a 
configuration file in /etc/default/ where you can specify a status eMail be 
sent, but I expect that you would need to use  a shell based mail application 
to read such messages, and generally the sending of these status messages is 
for server systems.
