When you opened the DMG file, it placed a volume on your desktop. The volume contains 2 items, an application file called Brave.app, and an alias, that is a shortcut file you can place on your desktop if you wish. After you copy the Brave.app file to your applications folder, close the volume window, and then eject the volume from your desktop.
