You are confusing Smart Sink with Selective Sink. SmartSink allows you to to 
view the folders, but the material is online unless you open a file. What you 
are referring to is selective sink, which let’s you determine which folders do 
not show up on your computer at all. I  make use of of Smart Sink since I can 
access what I need at a moments notice..
