Very hard to tell without experiencing it. Often though, when something like this is happening, there is a secure window that will want your authorization. Bring up an application list and see if there is a system event or similar application listed. If so try each window under that. Perhaps you can call the apple Accessibility help desk and get advice on remote sharing even if they might not want to help you with the other issue.
