I also generally get away with letting my screen reader chatter on my Bose Q700. It's testimony to it's noise cancellation which phones have to try and improve voice pickup and minimize environmental sounds for any user. If there are lots of mics on the headset, the noise cancellation can be quite excellent.
However, it doesn't always work. Some people have better hearing and will hear that screen reader, or hear your typing as you click keys. Some of these people won't care, but others can be very bothered by such stuff. Moral of the story: I prefer a headset that has mute/unmute right on the headset in a form that confirms whether or not I'm muted. This can be very important should you choose to go for a walk down the hall while listening to your teleconference on your BT headset. Remember about that Supreme Court hearing the other month in the U.S. where somebody forgot about that part? It made national "hah hah good joke" news for a couple days in the U.S. last month.
