ET was asking about where else besides the File menu can using the option key give you different or alternative menus. The Mac sprinkles these around quite a bit. Most of the menu extras have option layouts with more information. For example, the WiFi one has Mac Addresses TX and RX rates, a diagnose tool, the channel and country of channel for the router and bunches more and the volume menu extra allows you to pick input and output devices.
