Hi Donna, While Classic view is not available in Catalina, there is a similar alternative called Column layout, that can be enabled from within the View menu, in the Menu Bar of the Mail app.
The preview pane that appears either below or to the right of the mailbox content area can be disabled as follows: 1. With VoiceOver focus on the mailbox content area, VO + Right Arrow one time to place focus on the splitter. If the preview pane is set to appear below the mailbox content area, this is a horizontal splitter. 2. Use VO + SHIFT + Down Arrow to interact with the splitter. 3. Once you have interacted with the horizontal splitter, use VO + Down Arrow to set the splitter to 100%, which totally collapses the splitter and eliminates the preview pane altogether. 4. Use VO + SHIFT + Up Arrow to stop interacting with the splitter, and you are done.
