Hi Donna, I had a similar problem with the same smart plug and Amazon Echo.
To solve the problem I had to reset the Wemo plug. Just resetting my Echo and rediscovery didn’t work. I had to follow the reset directions on the Wemo plug and then set it up again. After that it worked correctly. I think it also updated it’s firm ware in the process. I googled how to reset the plug. If I remember correctly I had to hold the power button down and plug it in and hold the button for 10 seconds. Then I used the Wemo app to find it and set it up. I hope this helps.
