I would also suggest reporting it to Google. They’ll be able to work out whether it’s their bug or Apple’s bug.
In general, I have found that there are some applications in which Safari for Mac with VoiceOver works best, and others in which Chrome under Windows is better (with NVDA or JAWS as the screen reader). As another example, one of my email accounts requires Microsoft Outlook. The Windows version of Outlook has very good accessibility and some features that the Mac version lacks, but it also has a tendency to become completely unresponsive and to bring down the screen reader with it (even with the latest operating system, screen readers, and Office 365). On the other hand, the Mac version is also fairly accessible, and, in my experience, doesn’t crash or otherwise fail very often. It's a trade-off. At the moment, you can’t have it all in the one system.
