Hi,
I can respect your experience. I, speaking personally, will not by a mac
that does not have the start up sound. Is not it amazing how individual
preferences makes computing really special?
Frankly, that sound is so much a part of pop culture, I am wondering how
the decision was made. what problem is solved by removing the sound for
everyone, that was not solved by allowing individuals to remove it if
desired?

Hi!
Infact to me its no problem to hear when the compter starts even without a
chime.
But i guess i am the only that has disabled the sound as i really don???t need
it.

Tim, would additional noise to the powers that be help? If so I'd be delighted
to add my voice to the pleas for some sound at start up! To whom should such
things be addressed to be most effective?

Hi,
On newer Macs, I doubt that any of these will work. I'm pretty sure that the
chime generator is not even a part of the machine anymore. These commands were
for older Macs for removing the chime and regaining it as well as for the Macs
in the transition time between when there was and as they were removing the
startup chime.
We're just SOL as far as I'm aware. I've made noise to the powers that be, but
the noise fell on deaf ears.
Later...

Hi,
several times I read on the internet of a way to get back the Mac start sound
on the newer Macs. The discription says to enter the folloing command in
Terminal and restart the Mac:
sudo nvram StartupMute=%00
So far it didn???t work for me. Are you aware of a different way or am I doing
something wrong?
Thanks and all the best
