Sorry, I have know idea what you are talking about. You say jump to the
next window, I would if I knew how. I can’t do the same as when one
sinks music as I’ve never had to do this as my Mac and iPhone have
always been perfectly sinked as far as music goes. I’ve never really
connected via a usb cable before so have know idea what I’m doing.

Petrus,
After you connect the iPhone via USB jump to the next window, stop
interacting with the general area and find the toggle buttons, one of
which is Audio. Select that then find the sync options. You can choose
to sync all or selected books.
I don't use wi-fi for this as I prefer to have more control over
what is going on.

As I got lost trying to sink my devices connecting up with a usb
cable I thought I’d try something else. Thought I could find my
purchased books in the book store on the Mac and download them, but I
couldn’t find purchased items.

Tim,
Yes that makes sense. The books app on the iPhone plays audio, but
Mac Mojave OSx had not been caught up to that capability. I’m still
using Mojave, since I’ve not yet finished my Federal Income Tax
preparations. Don’t want to booger up stuff until that’s behind me.
