As an alternative, you could create a sparse bundle disk on your mac using Disk utility. You can password protect it and I believe it is encrypted too. Only a person who knows the password can open such a disk. You can specify how large the disk you want. I did so a number of years ago. It sits on my mac in docs but to open it you have to know the password. YOu can also copy it anywhere you want and the password protection remains. I chose a couple of GB for the size of the disk but you can decide on any size.
