Yesterday my wife and I spent the evening in an Apple Store trying to fix this
annoying bug. The Genius was so helpful and well educated that after one hour
without results, after several procedures he was really sorry to be unable to
fix it. He suggested to escalate the issue to the accessibility department,
from where I was referred… After testing the issue with Bluetooth ear phones,
that did not trigger the problem, he reinforced their conviction that was
something to do with the lightning plug. He was really embarrassed once that
didn’t make sense, because the bug was just triggered by voiceover and appeared
after a bloody update.

This morning I manage to put the phone in DFU mode, after a full restore I used
a backup from my iPhone 7. The bug was gone!! I then decided to put it back
with my full backup from the iPhone 8 and the bug returned! So know it is fine
after a DFU again and using the backup from iPhone 7. I am planning to try to
contact the extremely friendly Genius to let him know the solution.

Many thanks for the information.
I just spent about one hour on a call with Apple Accessibility Team. I got a
case number to go to an Apple store.

Hello,

I cannot reproduce your issue. However, in no way does this invalidate your
experience.

All I can suggest is that you attempt to resolve the issue by resetting your
phone settings.

Hi,

I have an iPhone 8 updated that when I am using the earphones the screen
wakes-up right after locking. The iPhone 7 doesn’t have such a problem. It is
impossible to use the iPhone 8 to listen something once Voiceover is always
saying the hours.

Anyone else?

Best,
João
