Took a truckload of "patients". After removing the offending albums
from the Mac, I did the same on my iDevices.
Then I unhid the album on the Mac. The AAC label is gone and all
looks good now on Mac and iDevices. Time for lunch and a book. :)

Hi,
Since they are purchased content, you should be able to easily delete
then re-download the album without losing anything. Worth a try anyway.
If you're at all worried about losing things, you can copy the
existing album to the Desktop temporarily.

the AAC kind. Think it would be worth deleting them?

Hi,
Usually, anything purchased from iTunes should read as "Purchased AAC
Audio File". A plain old AAC Audio File is one that iTunes may have
converted itself when importing a CD or other media into iTunes. Now,
that's a "usually", so, if it's misbehaving, then I'd have to play
with it more. It sounds like you're fine with it now, so, so am I :).

The Purchased AAC Audio files are, of course, those that you
purchased from the iTunes Store. If it says MPEG Audio File, then it
is likely an mp3. If it says AAC Audio File, then it is an Apple AAC

Regarding the checked items thing, in the Summary pane, if the item
is checked to only sync checked music, then once you applied the
change, all the unchecked items would have been automatically removed
from the iPhone.

bring up View options, navigate through the list and check it. This

In iTunes on your Mac, make sure that the Music table is in List

This will put VO into the Header info for the columns. Either
sort it by "Kind" or by iCloud status if that is a column. You can
press cmd-j to bring up the View options if "kind" is not one of
