The unwanted voices are unchecked in both places. I removed then,
will see if they come back again after the next update.

Hi,
It's possible that they do come back, as there are also voices in there
that I've never downloaded. I believe that some of them are default
voices for other languages. Make sure that the voice is not checked in
the "Customize" section of both System Prefs and VO Utility. If it is
still checked there, it would probably re-download during an update.

Deleting voices does not seem to be permanent. I had removed the
unwanted voices so they would not show in the speech rotor but I suspect
system updates puts them back.

Hi,
The basic answer is "Yes". What exactly do you do to manually change
it to Alex? There are normally three places to check. VO Utility
under Speech, the VO rotor and System Preferences under Accessibility,
Speech. Fore the VO rotor, press VO-cmd-shift-left or right to the
Voices item, then VO-cmd-shift-up or down through the choices. In the
VO rotor, if Automatically switch is enable, the voice will switch
depending on what accent the Mac feels that is required for the
specific word.
All that said, if you do wish to get rid of Daniel, go to System,
Library, Speech, Voices, and locate Daniel. Get rid of both Daniel
and Daniel Compact speech folders. It will require your finger-print
or Admin password depending on your Mac model. The caution is to not
get rid of the stock voices. So, if you wish to get rid of Daniel,
only get rid of Daniel and Daniel Compact. don't forget to empty your
Trash.

Hello everyone,
I just updated my MacBook Pro to version 10.14.4 today and encountered
a problem I had several updates ago. Although my preferred English
voice is Alex, Daniel keeps inserting itself into my work. Even when
I manually switch to Alex, my MacBook reverts to Daniel.
Since I have had this problem before and find it particularly
annoying, I am wondering what would happen if I erased Daniel, a stock
voice of the operating system and any other English languages for that
matter from my Mac. Obviously, I wouldn’t attempt to erase Alex.
I would appreciate feedback from others.
Thank you.
