I'm using my braille display for this. iPhone sits next to it, remote app and settings app in the switcher. Yes I tried entering the password then getting a new code. I read on a forum olone that someone found getting a new code from his Mac was immediately successful. My Mac is upstairs, ATV downstairs. I'd have to break the Mac down and set it up downstairs. Crazy. Going to look at prices for an ATV 4th.

Hi,

Yes, the ATV 4 and ATV 4K are very accessible out of the box.  I really like my 4.  I read up some more at:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7533430?answerId=31449476022#31449476022

and learned that it has to do with the short expiration time for the 2FA code.  The expiration time is about 30 seconds, and if you're using the ATV remote to enter the username/password/2FA code, you're better than me if you can get it entered in less than 30 seconds.  Essentially, the solution is to enter the Apple ID, and password, then leave the ATV waiting while you generate a new 2FA code.  Use your iPhone or Mac to generate a new code, when that code is generated and presented, then you should be able to enter it within the 30 second time limit.  If not, if you have a Bluetooth keyboard, pair it with the ATV and, if you're a fast typer, you might get it in on time.  To generate the new code on your iPhone, go to Settings, Your Name, Password & Security, then down near the bottom of the screen, there's an item that reads "Get a Verification Code".  Double-tap this and enter it on the ATV.

HTH.

I might give this a try some time later this week on my old ATV just for fun.  This also should let you watch Star Trek tonight instead of falling asleep or throwing your beverage at the TV during the propaganda delivery.

Hi,
I had similar problems with the ATV 2.  I just gave up as I already have a ATV 4.  the 2 was just for fun connected to a different speaker system.  I just use it for AirPlay music now and all is good.  I'll probably just mothball it soon and reconnect an old Airport Express for the AirPlay part of things.

Hi,
Have you checked the ATV software is up to date?  If it is, you may wish to do the reset so that everything is clean from the start.  Yes, Star Trek is much preferred to the political ramblings that are likely tonight.

Hi,
Normal 2FA behaviour would make you enter a six digit code that would be automatically sent to one of your already approved devices.  So, if your iPhone is one of the approved devices, then when you attempt to sign in with your Apple ID on the ATV, and it asks for Apple ID and password, it usually sends a notification to the iPhone.  If it is not doing this, then it's possible that your ATV is still considered an approved device from before, but I thought that it might do the 2FA thing again.  I don't have an ATV 3 anymore, but my ATV 2 did that, and my ATV 4 allows for the 2FA separately.
It's possible I'm steering you down the wrong path.
