I'm running Mojave and not encountering this issue at all. There must be
something in your audio set-up that makes the difference.

Are you using Apple USB or BlueTooth for your audio, or is this
through the speakers or headphone jack? I have seen similar behavior
when using BlueTooth device that went out of range and then came back
into range.

Ok, just as an update, I discovered it wasn’t just Alex, or the irc
client.
It’s something going on with sound in general. My new mail sound got
cut off
too. On the Apple discussion similar problems were discussed
regarding sound
in Mojave.

Quit irc, and restart, if you have it set up correctly, it will

I use Textual as an irc client, and have each channel set to speak
channel messages using my system voice, which is Alex in my case.
Problem
is, after about 4 hours, it gets to where it can’t speak after 2
words.
Is there any way to just restart speech? Running Mojave 10.14.3. TIA
