Hi Simon,

That's great that they're moving towards Jamf. From my prospective, it's the
best choice for MDM in the Mac education environment. You're welcome to
contact me off-list if you need any quick help with any of this sort of thing.

Yeah and the interfacing between mac and windows is getting so much beter.

It’s just a shame that the mac doesn’t work with group policies or simple log
in scripts.
The university is moving towards jamf for macs and SSMC for the windows
platform.

We’re so far behind the technology 8 ball it’s always pre 19th century

Hi Jonathan and Simon,

I used to do this sort of thing with AD and OS X Server with what's known as
the Golden Triangle. Network Home storage was handled by AD and between
MacOS's built-in Directory Utility along with the management preferences of the
OS X Server. Mapping of network drives, app restrictions, printers and such
along with AD authentication was all managed through this environment with
amazing results.

Yes, a similar process works with Apple Business Manager or Apple School
Manager now, where integrating an MDM like Jamf, Zulu Desk or many other
solutions make this integration of platforms work quite slick. Our MDM manages
both Mac and iOS devices so that there is very few instances where Techs need
to physically make contact with the managed devices. I went to a conference
last fall where both Microsoft and IBM were demonstrating their processes by
which they use an MDM to integrate Macs into there business environment.

Have you listened to the Mac Admin podcast? They were discussing Apple Business

Yeah learning can be lotts of fun.

I'm currently learning how to add Mac computers to a Windows Active Directory

I'm also trying to automate the addition of apps to the Dock for each user when
they first log in to a machine.
And map a home drive on the server that they save their documents to.
